DESCRIPTION:AimThe purpose of this workshop is to present and discuss the
state-of-the-art in high-performance scientific computing with application
s in environment. Thus\, the presentations will focus on environmental app
lication needing high-performance computing\, physical modeling of large-s
cale problems\, and the development of scalable algorithms for solving lar
ge scale problems on modern parallel and distributed high-performance comp
uting platforms\, including multicore architectures\, GPGPUs/GPUs\, and cl
usters.Furthermore\, during the workshop the participants will have the op
portunity to discuss and share the latest research in parallel and distrib
uted high performance computing systems applied to problems in environment
 al sciences - e.g. meteorology\, various life-sciences\, geology\, geograp
hy\, seismology\, geophysics\, etc. The emphasis of this workshop will be
on running complex realistic applications at sustained performance in prod
uction-grade HPC environments. Scalability studies of complex computing co
des on HPC platforms and the tools and development environments facilitati
ng improved scalability are among the expected contributions.Workshop dead
